AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE U.S. CENSUS BUREAU
NYU—under the direction of Dr. Stephanie Cook—will be the first to represent the Northeast Geographical Area of the US in partnering with the Census Bureau to nurture and maximize the talents and strengths of students, faculty, researchers, and Census Bureau staff by promoting the fields of data science and analytics and exchanging information leading to the production of useful data and statistical products for local and metropolitan area communities and beyond.
The purpose of this partnership is to establish a mutually beneficial, bilateral transfer of knowledge and pursuit of opportunities to:
produce more relevant and accurate statistical data for our nation by expanding our understanding and use of data science.
leverage Census Bureau’s expertise and data to advance research and discovery and to inform critical current and future socio-economic, demographic, and technological policies.
expand support for citizens and communities – local metropolitan areas and rural ones – to use this data by (1) exploring alternative research methods and technology and (2) developing new, innovative statistical products and services.
develop a next generation workforce to tackle the challenges of “counting” in an increasingly rich mosaic of cultures and intersections.
develop understanding and technical skills of our employees and students to practice reliable, informed, and secure data science.
